A new podcast series celebrating the River Colne in Hertfordshire has been launched through a collaboration with Eric Johnson Photography & Videography, Watford Borough Council and students of West Herts College.
With support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Players, the project worked closely with key project partners Groundwork East to produce the podcast series, ‘Tales of the River’.
The podcast series delves into the rich history, environmental significance, and future prospects of this vital waterway in Watford. Hosted by the Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, each episode promises to be an enlightening journey for listeners of all ages.
The podcasts blended on-location recordings captured around Watford with studio content recorded by students of the local college.

A particular treat was joining Watford residents on an early evening bat walk – featured in the Hidden Beauty podcast. Armed with special devices that detect the high frequency bat echos, it was a joy to capture the awe of participants listening to and seeing something we’d never normally witness.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We are thrilled to launch this podcast series and bring the story of the River Colne to life. This project is not just about celebrating our local heritage, but also about raising awareness of the environmental challenges the river is facing. Through these podcasts, we hope to inspire the community to get involved with the River Colne.”
