The brief
Berkeley Groupneeded a film providing an internal update for staff on the progress of developments across several St William and St James projects throughout the South East of England.
Rather than covering a single site, the project involved travelling to multiple developments over several months, documenting progress and bringing the different locations together into one finished film.
The brief also involved supporting sales staff who were not used to appearing on camera. They needed to communicate confidently and naturally, without the finished film feeling overly scripted or corporate.
The final film needed to give Berkeley staff a clear picture of progress across the various developments while maintaining the professional standards expected of a major property developer.
The approach
The project was planned as a longer-term production, with filming taking place across multiple sites as developments progressed.
Rather than treating each location as a separate film, the approach was to build one coherent update that gave staff a sense of what was happening across the wider portfolio. This involved:
- Travelling to development sites across the South East over several months
- Capturing construction progress and the changing character of each location
- Working with Berkeley sales staff who had limited experience in front of the camera
- Providing media training and guidance to help contributors speak naturally and confidently
- Structuring the finished film so updates from different locations worked together as one story
The emphasis throughout was on making the contributors comfortable on camera while keeping the finished content clear, informative and professional.
Production
The project involved filming across multiple St William and St James developments over an extended period. This included:
- Returning to different sites as development work progressed
- Capturing construction activity, completed areas and wider site context
- Recording sales staff and other contributors on location
- Providing media training for contributors unfamiliar with working in front of a camera
- Directing interviews and contributions to ensure clear, confident delivery
- Bringing footage from multiple locations and filming dates together through the edit
- Delivering a finished internal film that could update Berkeley staff on progress across the wider portfolio
The production required careful planning around travel, site access, construction schedules and contributor availability, with the filming spread across several months rather than completed in a single shoot.
The result
The finished film brought together progress from multiple St William and St James developments into one clear update for Berkeley Group staff.
It also gave sales staff who were not accustomed to being filmed the confidence and practical guidance needed to contribute naturally, rather than relying on heavily scripted presentations.
By combining filming across multiple sites with media training and a carefully structured edit, the project turned months of development activity across the South East into a single, professional film that kept staff informed.
The work also strengthened an ongoing relationship with Berkeley Group, with further video and photography projects continuing across its developments.
Why this project worked
This project shows the value of combining production with practical media support. Travelling across multiple sites over several months created a much more complete picture of development progress, while media training helped staff become confident contributors rather than simply subjects in front of a camera.
