I’m thrilled with how the latest video project has turned out – for such a worthwhile and important cause. The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is a visual display by the ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity, which was unveiled by the Watford Town Centre BID to help raise awareness and understanding of neurodiversity in the town.
Each colour umbrella is designed to represent the 1 in 5 of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome.
Neurodiversity is a popular term that’s used to describe differences in the way people’s brains work. The idea is that there’s no correct way for the brain to work. Instead, there is a wide range of ways that people perceive and respond to the world, and these differences are to be embraced and encouraged.
It was a wonderful collaborative project, working alongside ADD-vance, atria Watford, and Dc² Ents and Dance.
Kara Mesiano, Watford Town Centre BID’s manager, said: “Our aim is to change the perception of neurodiversity and neurodivergent people locally, celebrating all the many strengths that come from thinking differently in our town.
The vibrant art installation will provide a visually stunning backdrop to a great location within Watford Town Centre, but more importantly it will serve the purpose of raising awareness and educating the public on neurodiversity. A huge thank you must go to Watford Town Centre businesses for funding this project, many of which have relevant processes in place to welcome neurodivergent customers and staff members.”

The uplifting art installation will adorn Queen’s Road from 27 July – 27 September 2024.
